David McKenzie
Pervasive Computing Director
EMEA
IBMDavid McKenzie has been with IBM for more than 30 years. He joined the company at the Manufacturing facility in Greenock, Scotland in 1964, and pursued a career in software development and international marketing, including management assignments in IBM's software development laboratory in Raleigh, North Carolina, the International Marketing centre in Munich, and with European HQ Operations in both Paris and New York. Starting in 1975, David's career has been principally focused on getting start-up businesses within IBM underway. From 1976 - 1983, he was leading the European work on launching IBM into the Engineering Graphics business, culminating in being the Product Manager for Graphics for IBM EMEA. This was followed by 2 years launching IBM into the PC based workstation business. In 1985, David effectively became IBM's first full-time person in Europe on UNIX, when he became the EMEA Product Manager for IBM's UNIX products. As IBM's UNIX / RS/6000 business grew, David held a series of UK and European management positions, eventually being appointed in 1992 as Product Management Director for RS/6000 EMEA.
In March, 1997, David was invited to join another start-up business, IBM's Network Computer Division, as Product Management Director for EMEA. However, as many of the customer opportunities that were being addressed to the NC Division were in reality reflecting the evolving Pervasive Computing business needing a different set of skills, partners and marketing approach, David was asked to set up this new organisation in EMEA; he took up his current position in January, 1998.
