XNET is the working group that develops and maintains the Open Group specifications of communications and networking aspects of Open Systems. As well as data transfer functions, this includes communications support functions - such as Directory Services - that make data transfer possible. XNET is part of the Platform program.

XNET's challenge is to ensure that the networking aspects of Open Systems evolve to meet current and future needs.

XNET normally meets in private. This public session has been arranged

  • to tell you about XNET's work program and on-going liaison activities
  • to pursue increased membership in XNET
  • to obtain your input on current networking requirements, including support of emerging, higher speed communication means, and provision of the tools necessary to make an Open System "Internet Ready", such as support for IPv6
  • to help us position XNET to make an optimal contribution to the IT DialTone.
