DCE Program Group |
The DCE Program Group's April
meeting in San Diego will follow up the highly successful meetings in Amsterdam, The
Netherlands, at which the new strategy for DCE was unveiled. The April meeting will be the
first opportunity in the United States for users and suppliers of DCE family technologies
to discuss the new strategy, which emphasizes robust, mission-critical computing, and
improved interworking with other technologies and with solutions software. In the
meeting's second day, a program on intercell and inter-enterprise interoperation will
include sessions on security, directory services, and administration. The featured session
will address the future interaction of DCE and firewall technologies. Guest speakers from
the firewall industry will bring a new breadth and interest to the Program Group's meeting
format. At the April meeting, the new DCE strategy, as it has been refined and since Amsterdam, will be presented in its entirety for the first time in the United States. The strategy will be expanded with the first presentation of a formal plan for relating the DCE Program Group strategically to the Open group's IT DialTone architecture initiative. Those attending the meeting will participate in planning DCE's transformation into a complete solution for highly available enterprise computing. Plans and schedules for enhancing DCE's operability, security, and integration with the internet will be presented. Continuing the practice begun in Amsterdam, after a series of presentations outlining the plans and options, discussion sessions will give everybody attending an opportunity to contribute to the refinement and prioritization of the requirements and plans. Following through on the new strategy's goal of adding value by complementing the traditional strengths of DCE, the program on intercell interoperation will introduce speakers and vendors from outside the "traditional" DCE community. The subject of firewalls and other boundary protections and their relation to DCE and robust enterprise computing will be addressed by leading theorists and practitioners of the relevant technologies. In addition, sessions on intercell and interenterprise directory services, management tools, and related issues will feature DCE technologists from many of our traditional vendors. Contact: Sally
