Gene Banman is the Vice President and General Manager of the Desktop Systems  Group within Sun Microsystems Computer Company(SMCC), a Sun Microsystems,  Inc. company. Mr. Banmans's organization is responsible for the product  development and marketing of Sun's desktop systems and workstations for the worldwide market. He assumed this position on July 1, 1995.

Prior to taking over the newly formed Desktop Systems Group, Mr. Banman was President of Nihon Sun Microsystems, K.K., Sun's wholly owned Japanese subsidiary. He managed Nihon Sun for almost 5 years, during which time it grew from $150 million in sales to $800 million.

During his 10 years at Sun, Mr. Banman has also held positions in product marketing at corporate headquarters, as well as sales management positions in the U.S. sales organization.

Prior to joining Sun, he was Director of Marketing for Data Systems Design, a disk sub-system start-up company. He started his professional career as the planning and budgets analyst for one of Intel's wafer fabrication plants. Mr. Banman has a Masters in Industrial Administration from Carnegie-Mellon University and a B.S. in Physics from the University of California at Berkeley.
