DCE Program Group

Agenda

Further information on the program group

At the last Members Conference the DCE Forum arrived at a process and a plan for refining customer requirements by picking one requirement and one particular market segment (i.e. DCE login security requirement, for the securities industry), composing a functional level specification based on those requirements, and presenting it to the vendors with the intention of obtaining commitment from the vendors to meet those requirements in their products. At this Conference, during the joint DCE Forum session the customers and vendors will come together to evaluate both the process that was used this past quarter, and the progress that was made using this approach.

Related to this process and focussing on the future, we will be holding a separate customer session of the DCE Forum where we will determine which requirements we want to focus on next for refinement and which additional vertical market segments we want to use as drivers for the process.

There will also be several technical discussions on the new functionality that is being proposed for DCE Next, particularly in the areas of LDAP and PKI, in order to obtain member feedback on the functionality and design issues.

We also envision a session on explaining why DCE is still the right choice for distributed computing, and to talk about some of the services available through The Open Group that can provide new DCE companies with the support and consulting services needed during the initial phases of deployment.

The Open Group will be providing updates on all DCE related projects, specifications, and working groups. There will be plenty of time set aside for members to advertise how they are using DCE in their own environments as well.
