Software Council
Business Meeting

Due to the popularity of recent Software Council sessions we are continuing the practice of filling the available time with discussion on hot, strategic issues. In Seattle we will have half a day in joint session with
the Customer Council on Thursday morning and then continue this through the afternoon in a smaller group as the Software Council.

Please see the joint plenary outline for details of the morning session on distributed object technology and desktop evolution alternatives.

The afternoon sessions will be as follows:

1. What's hot at TOG

The session will cover recent progress on key current TOG initiatives such as the ACT-DCE PST and the Network Computer proposal.

The session will be chaired by Mike Lambert. Speakers will be appropriate TOG staff who work on these programs.

2. Standards evolution

Representatives of the key driving forces in standards will contrast the majority consensus approach to standards versus the industry consensus approach.

Speakers will include Mike Lambert of The Open Group and Don Deutsch of Sybase

3. Open Action proposals

Josina Arfman (TriTeal) will present some proposals on how member companies can get additional leverage from their involvement with TOG and at the same time help TOG to improve its market visibility.

4. Formal Business

Karl Klessig will deal with such items as approval of last meeting's minutes, representative elections and any other formal business.

5. Other Business

We have deliberately reserved some time for any important topics that arise between now and the meeting date. As these meetings are always very full indeed please submit any topic suggestions ASAP by email to the Software Council's Executive Committee at ogscexec@opengroup.org

Please note:

Information on earlier meetings is available from the Software Council's meetings page. If you have any other questions please contact Paul Tanner.
