Towards the creation of a standards-based Integrated Information Infrastructure
Bradley Wright, VP Product Management, MetaMatrix,
Inc.
With critical enterprise data distributed across disparate commercial
and internal applications spanning decades of technology, achieving the
goal of an enterprise-wide Integrated Information Infrastructure requires,
in part, the construction of a cost-effective middleware solution that
can act as the integration layer to these systems. Traditional methods
of integrating information such as warehousing or the direct coupling
of systems via software have significant limitations including high development
and maintenance costs. Fortunately, another approach to constructing an
Integrated Information Infrastructure is available: a model or metadata
driven approach. This presentation will outline the manner in which a
model driven, or metadata driven, approach to real-time, demand-based
information integration can be realized through the use of standards defined
by the Object Management Group: Meta-Object Facility (MOF), Unified Modeling
Language (UML), XML Metadata Interchange (XMI), and Common Warehouse Metamodel
(CWM).
