There were two topics for the meeting:
S/MIME Gateway Certification
The objectives of this session were to:
- Review the operation of the S/MIME Gateway Certification program
- Consider a proposal for third-party testing
- Plan extensions to the S/MIME Gateway profile
Manager's Guide to Coping with Spam
The objective of this session was to review the first draft of the Manager's Guide to
Coping with Spam (2nd Edition).
These sessions were restricted to members of the Messaging Forum and invited technical
experts. Expanded notes and further information are available to members of the Forum. |
S/MIME Gateway Certification
There are now four certified products under the S/MIME Gateway Certification
program (from BT Syntegra, Tumbleweed Communications, NetIQ, and ZixCorp). The
operation of the program has generated nine requests for interpretation of either the SMG
profile or the certification policy.
All nine interpretations were reviewed and proposals for changes to the
specification prepared (for inclusion in Version 2).
A proposal from Alan ElSheshai of DataCerts for the establishment of a
third-party testing service was reviewed. It was agreed that such a service is desirable
if it can be established at a reasonable cost and supports the existing certificate
exchange protocol.
Russ Chung presented a paper identifying issues relating to the integration
of desktop and domain encryption.
The target timescale for Version 2 of the program remains mid-2005.
Manager's Guide to Coping with Spam
Leslie Oganowski (Johnson Consulting) brought forward the first draft of the
Manager's Guide to Coping with Spam (2nd Edition). This was reviewed and specific changes
identified that need to be applied before formal acceptance review.
