Real-Time & Embedded
Systems Forum
Objective of Meeting
The
objective of the Wednesday session of the RTES Forum was to focus on the
MILS Architecture: to provide updates on the progress being made and
brainstorm about what further steps could be taken to progress the
uptake of MILS Architecture even further.
Summary
Wednesday
was a very productive session – using the presentations on a variety
of MILS-related progress updates as a jumping-off point to brainstorm
and identify actions that would lead to: increased awareness, additional
protection profiles, focus on commonality through APIs, and improved
certification efforts, all with the objective of in increasing market
adoption of the MILS Architecture.
Updates
were provided in the areas below and the brainstorming resulted in those
actions listed in the Outputs and Next Steps:
-
MILS
Demonstrations (Ben Calloni, Lockheed Martin)
-
Lexicon
(Michael McEvilley)
-
Protection
Profiles (PPs) going forward (Rob Hoffman)
-
MILS
Integration (Rance DeLong)
-
Compositional
Certification (Rance DeLong for John Rushby)
-
Cyber-Physical
Systems (Rance DeLong)
-
Standardization
(Joe Bergmann/Carolyn Boettcher)
-
Commercial
Certification and feedback from NSA, NATO (NC3 Board Co-Chairs),
NC3A, EC, NCSA, EDA, and NSC meetings (Joe Bergmann)
-
Architecture
Artifact Requirements to support RT Assurance Requirements; for
example, Automated Test Tools might require information for unique
Properties, Attributes, Features, etc. (Joe Bergmann/Ed Roberts)
Outputs
The
RTES Forum will be providing a strategic and tactical outline on how
best to protect and advance current
evaluation/certification/accreditation efforts on existing Profiles via
the Common Criteria program.
The
Forum will be prioritizing their efforts to extend existing Profiles and
create new Profiles for the MILs Architecture.
The
RTES Forum will be considering the development of common APIs for
middleware for MILS (SKPP)-based solutions.
The
RTES Forum is considering sending a letter to the NIAP folks expressing
concerns as it relates to their proposed changes to the CCEVS program
for FY2010.
Next Steps
Prioritize
above initiatives and include objectives, deliverables, and milestones
in the RTES Roadmap.
