In this members-only meeting, the Architecture Forum progressed work on TOGAF Version
9, and in addition they received reports on a number of important ongoing
projects and liaisons.

Proposals for New Standing Committees and New
Projects
A mandate was sought for the following Standing Committees and Projects
to progress to the next step of formal initiation:
- Charter Standing Committee
- Academic Standing Committee
- Eclipse Process Framework project
- TOGAF-GERAM Synergy project
- Relationship of SOA to Enterprise Architecture and TOGAF
There was a teleconference dial-in facility for this part of the
meeting, for those members not able to participate in person.
Judith Jones, Architecting-the-Enterprise presented a report
on the current status of TOGAF9 development. An interim draft of work to
date was made available by the development team for wider review within
the Forum.
The APC earlier in the week had already featured detailed expositions
by the various work leaders of their respective domains:
- Architecture Development
- Architecture-based Business Transformation
- Architecture Deployment
- Architecture Value Realization
- Architecture Best Practice Management
In a subsequent discussion on next steps, it was agreed that the draft
should be made available for review between now and the next meeting at
Lisbon, Portugal in October 2006. At the same time, there would be market
research results available from the TOGAF Product Management function
within The Open Group company (see below).
Architecture Tools
David Jackson, IBM, Chair of the Architecture Forum, led a
discussion on tools for architecture work. The previous day, David had
hosted the Architecture Tools track in the IT Architecture Practitioners
Conference, and in particular the plenary discussion at the end of this
track. David fed in the highlights from the Architecture Tools track
discussions into this Architecture Forum discussion.
Vish Viswanathan of CC&C Solutions undertook to draft a mandate
proposal for a Tools Standing Committee within the Forum.
Product Management and TOGAF Market Research
Allen Brown, President & CEO of The Open Group, and Steve Nunn, The
Open Group Chief Legal Counsel, presented proposals for implementation of
a corporate Product Management function within The Open Group company.
TOGAF is one of the key products that will come under the bailiwick of
this new function. There was a detailed and lively discussion, and
agreement was reached on a set of immediate market research activities to
be conducted ahead of the next meeting in Lisbon and fed into the
Architecture Forum meeting there.
