UDEF Executive Overview & Tutorial

Objective of Meeting

The objective of this session was to provide information on what the UDEF is, why it is useful, and how to apply it to classify data.

Summary

The Executive Briefing gave a general overview of the UDEF. It:

• Explained the basic semantic problem
• Described the UDEF and the basic metadata management architecture and associated concept of operations
• Highlighted the benefits of the UDEF
• Illustrated them with an example use case

The Tutorial:

• Explained the key principles of mapping enterprise data to the UDEF
• Developed the understanding of these principles through interactive exercises using typical enterprise data

Outputs

Participants learned:

• To understand the UDEF and how it can help reduce the costs of integrating applications, both within the enterprise and between enterprises
• How to use the UDEF to index information, producing results similar to those of other trained UDEF specialists

Next Steps

The Executive Overview and Tutorial will be repeated as needed to train people in the UDEF and its use.
