The Identity Management Work Area is a joint work area of The Open Group's Directory
Interoperability Forum, Messaging Forum, and Security Forum. The objectives of this
meeting were to review relevant work in other bodies, and to progress its own work
program, which includes:
- A public catalog of identity management products
- Open source test suites for identity management product implementations
- Requirements for a core identity representation
- An Enterprise Identity Management Architecture Guide
The meeting received an excellent presentation on the work of the Web Services
Interoperability (WS-I) organization and related this to work in the Liberty Alliance and
OASIS.
The web systems for input and display of information for the project catalog are now
almost complete. The meeting reviewed these systems and made plans for gathering input
from product vendors and for publicizing the catalog.
SAML and XACML were identified as the interface components for which test suites would
be most valuable.
Previous meetings had considered a proposal for a core identity representation based on
uuid pairs, and had decided that a deeper understanding of the requirements was needed
before a particular solution could be specified. This meeting included a workshop session
to develop that understanding.
Work on the Architecture Guide is at an early stage. There is an unstructured
collection of relevant material. The meeting agreed on an overall structure and table of
contents.
The output of the core identity requirements workshop will be published by The Open
Group as a detailed requirements statement, following validation by the participants and
further cycles of input, review, and comment.
