Working Group Co-Chair Tony Carrato opened the meeting on Tuesday April 22
and gave a presentation
on the working group and its activities, in a session
that was open to all conference attendees.
This was followed by another open session: a workshop
that explored a practical example of the use of TOGAF for SOA.
The conclusions
of this discussion were presented to the conference
on Wednesday April 23.
The workshop example was discussed further in a members-only meeting on Thursday
April 24, to develop input for the SOA/TOGAF
Practical Guide that the Working Group is producing.
This discussion also generated some input for the SOA Reference Architecture project.
The SOA Working Group met jointly with the Security Forum
in the afternoon of Thursday April 24 to progress the work of the SOA and Security project.
The meeting discussed a revision of the project charter,
explored some SOA security issues, and identified improvements to the
structure of the Guide to Security for SOA that the project is producing.
The Working Group then discussed the possibility of giving
a structured demonstration of the value of SOA and its role in enterprise
architecture. It agreed on the outline of a scenario on which
the demonstration could be based. This explores the consequences
for the architecture of a government department of a decision to
provide public self-service access to the department's administrative
capabilities.
The Open Group is developing a book on SOA, leveraging
the results of the Working Group's projects. The chapter
definitions are now in place, and the Working Group
discussed the book's further development.
