TOGAF Tutorial: I've Downloaded TOGAF – Now What?

Objective of Meeting

This tutorial complemented, and gave a further level of detail beyond, the Introduction to TOGAF tutorial. It was given by Sanda Morar, Senior Technical Architect with Infosys Technologies Ltd.

Summary

The tutorial gave a case study of one architect's experience in making the painful journey from literally "I've Downloaded TOGAF – Now What?" to delivering a very successful customization of the TOGAF framework for a big corporation.

Giving real-life examples from the author's own experience, it covered topics such as:

  • Why do we need to do each phase of the ADM? (What happens if I do it? What happens if I don't do it?)
  • How to relate the work products within and between the ADM phases
  • How to create a TOGAF metamodel in two weeks
  • How to extend the TOGAF framework; for example, to incorporating SOA or security

Sanda's presentation is available here.

Outputs

Participants received an insight into the challenges and rewards involved in making the journey from the first download of TOGAF to putting it into practice effectively.

Next Steps

The tutorial was very well received, and will be repeated at future Enterprise Architecture Practitioners Conferences.
