The meeting discussed a draft charter for the Work Group (see the meeting agenda),
including a mission statement and a set of proposed projects,
and considered how to gain more visibility and traction
for Semantic Interoperability, both within The Open Group and
in the wider world.
It was agreed that the mission of the Semantic Interpretability Working Group is to
further the use of Semantic Technology within the Enterprise.
This will be accomplished by producing deliverables that prove
Semantic Technology is real today.
The following topics were identified as appropriate
for Semantic Interoperability Working Group projects.
UDEF is an established project, which will continue.
The others will be formally approved as projects once
deliverables and project teams that can produce them are
identified.
- UDEF
- Semantics and SOA
- Vocabulary Management
- Semantics and TOGAF
- Semantic Interoperability Reference Model
Visibility and traction can be gained by linking Semantic Interoperability
to SOA, which has emerged as a key driver for it. This would be a good reason
to include Semantic Interoperability content in the program of The Open Group
conference in Austin, Texas in July.
