The DIF received reports from its work areas: Certification, Education, Marketing,
Mobile and Directory, and Identity Management. The highlights of progress over the last
quarter include:
- Completion and Company Review of the new LDAP certification documents
- Appointment of Gavenraj Sodhi as Education Area Director
- Completion of the Mobile and Directory Challenge Architecture Description (work in the
Mobile and Directory area will wind down now that this is done)
The DIF also received reports of progress in the IETF, the X.500 standards group,
OASIS, and the Liberty Alliance project.
Work on a Business Scenario for Secure Directory Services started at the Washington
meeting in October. At the present meeting, the latest draft was reviewed, and changes
were agreed for the publication version. Following completion of the scenario, a
certification profile for secure directory servers will be drafted, and an attempt will be
made to identify and catalog directory best practice descriptions.
The possibility of engaging the participation of academic institutions in open source
test suites for DSML and other relevant standards was discussed. A project description
will be drawn up, and DIF members will discuss participation with their contacts in
academia.
Marketing and promotion plans for the LDAP Ready directory applications certification
program were discussed. A target date of the last week in September was agreed for the
next Plugfest, which is to be hosted by Oracle.
LDAP Certified certification for directory servers is currently available at BASE
level. Progress on development of STANDARD level server certification was discussed. A
revised definition of this level has been approved, and STANDARD certification will be
launched once the new version of the test suite is approved also.
Possible ADVANCED certification profiles were considered. A Secure Directory Server
ADVANCED profile will be developed once the Secure Directory Services Business Scenario is
complete. A Directory Administration ADVANCED profile may be valuable, but further work
will be required to determine this. No vertical application areas for ADVANCED profiles
were identified.
