The Open Group Profile

Objective of Meeting

To educate attendees about The Open Group, activities of the members, Forums, and work areas, and to explain why Boundaryless Information Flow is important to their organization. This session was designed to engage non-members in a discussion about their interests in The Open Group and to present information about The Open Group as necessary. The "new style dialogue" approach was used.

Summary

The session commenced with introductions of The Open Group staff in attendance: Graham Bird, Terry Blevins, Chris Parnell, and Paul Hickey. This was followed by introductions of attendees, along with an expression of their interest. Staff then asked questions to elicit the needs of the attendees and provided information that was pertinent to their interest. There was a good deal of interest in the audience about enterprise architecture. The following table summarizes anonymous interests.

Interest Area # Expressions of Interest
TOGAF (TOGAF in XML, TRM, best practices, case studies, professional services, ...) 15
Security (safety, cross-enterprise security solutions, ID and access management standards, MLS, ... ) 8

Outputs

The output produced in this meeting was a better understanding of The Open Group on the part of the attendees and a better understanding of interests on the part of The Open Group staff.

We hope it was clear that The Open Group members are here at The Open Group to work on their problems with other members; problems that are directly related to their representative organizations! Much work is accomplished outside of the conferences in teleconferences and interim meetings. So working on problems within The Open Group allows members to get more for less by leveraging The Open Group staff and infrastructure and each other.

Next Steps

It is hoped that attendees that are not members will consider becoming members of The Open Group.
