UDEF
Objective of Meeting
There were three UDEF meetings during the conference: two UDEF
Tutorials (on Monday February 1 and Tuesday February 2), and a UDEF/XML/RDF
Workshop (on Wednesday February 3).
The aim of the tutorials was to provide training on the Universal
Data Element Framework (UDEF) and how to use it.
The aim of the workshop was to explore the use of UDEF for indexing
data expressed in Extensible
Markup Language (XML), and its relation to the Resource
Description Framework (RDF) standard.
Summary
The UDEF Tutorials were given by UDEF Project chair Ron Schuldt. They
provided an in-depth explanation of the value, definition, and use of
the UDEF.
The workshop explored the use of UDEF to tag XML expressions, its
relation to RDF, and its use in conjunction with RDF to support semantic
queries on data.
Outputs
This summary and the detailed minutes (available to members only)
form the main outputs of the meetings.
Next Steps
Further UDEF tutorials will be held at Open Group conferences, as the
opportunity arises.
The ideas discussed in the workshop will be explored and developed
further by the UDEF project team.
