Defense communications industry leaders have joined together to
create the DirecNet Task Force. This Task Force will provide a newly
created open standard for an IP-enabled, directional, ad hoc,
mobile, high-bandwith, mesh networking system. This new standard will
provide commanders and military forces with up to 1 gigabit per second
(1 Gbps) data rate link that will allow secure transmission of
mission-critical video, imagery, and voice communications. This
mission-critical capability will enable military forces to operate, in a
network-centric environment and to obtain a common and persistent
operational picture in near real time.
The member organizations of the DirecNet Task Force are:
- AAI
- BAE Systems
- Boeing
- Cubic Defense Applications
- Harris
- Innovative Concepts
- ITT Corporation
- L-3 Communications
- Northrop Grumman
- Raytheon
- Rockwell Collins
- ViaSat
In this open session, the need for the DirecNet standard was
described, and the consortium was introduced, including top-level
driving requirements and usage scenarios.
The agenda was as follows:
- Jennifer Schlenzig – Why DirecNet?
- Clay Stephans – Introduction to DirecNet
- Andy Hunton – Standard Development and Scenarios
