The Open Group Profile
Objective of Meeting
This session was designed to engage non-members in a discussion about their interests
in The Open Group and to present information about The Open Group as necessary. The format
was specifically altered from the "old style presentation" to a "new style
dialogue".
Summary
The session commenced with introductions of The Open Group staff in attendance: Graham
Bird, Terry Blevins, and Tonya Henderson. The staff introduction followed with
introductions of attendees, along with an expression of their interest. Following attendee
introduction, staff asked questions to elicit the needs of the attendees and provided
information that was pertinent to their interest. There was a lot of interest in the
audience about architecture and, as well, other standards organization representatives
were looking at reducing duplication between consortia.
It was evident that the main channel where attendees heard about The Open Group was
word-of-mouth, members talking to non-members!
Outputs
The output produced in this meeting was a better understanding of The Open Group on the
part of the attendees and a better understanding of interests on the part of The Open
Group staff.
We hope it was clear that The Open Group members are here at The Open Group to work on their
problems with other members; problems that are directly related to their
representative organizations! So working on problems within The Open Group allows members
to get more for less by leveraging The Open Group and each other.
Next Steps
Hopefully those that attended that are not members will consider becoming members of
The Open Group.
