welcome
In our Paris meeting:
- We will discuss The Open Group's In3 (Integrated Information Infrastructure)
strategy, and what it means in 2 widely differing business environments.
- We will look at how we can reach out to engage more directly with
the Open Source community.
- We will discuss what we can do to encourage provision of bettter interoperability
in Web Services.
- We have factored in good time for feedback during these sessions,
and as usual we will have ample time for open discussion before closing
the meeting.
Agenda
Session 1: 2.00 - 3.30pm
1. Welcome and Introductions
2. What In3 Means
Providing consistent access to integrated information is a serious
obligation for most corporate CIO's today. This is the driving force for
The Open Group's In3 vision and mission.
In this session:
- Terry Blevins will describe The Open Group's In3 (Integrated Information
Infrastructure) initiative
- Nick Mansfield (Shell International) will discuss his experience on
integrating information
- Eliot Solomon (SIAC) will discuss impediments to the goal of integration
We anticipate these 2 perspectives will illustrate views that are probably
widely different, possibly complementary in places, possibly seeming to
conflicting at times, but both equally valid and legitimate, and above
all highly informative. Join us to learn what In3 means to you and offer
your thoughts on how best the Customer Council can take an active part
in realizing its benefits.
Break: 3.30-4.00pm
Session 2: 4.00-5.30pm
3. Engaging with the Open Source Community
Increasingly, vendors are looking to develop software products based
on software developed in Open Source projects. Enterprise customers demand
that such products meet the same quality standards as those developed
using conventional approaches. The Open Group serves an important role
in the certification and branding of software products. How can Open Group
contribute to the efforts required to ensure that vendor implementations
of Open Source technologies are conformant to specifications, to ensure
key customer requirements such as portability and interoperability are
met?
In this session, William Estrem (University of St Thomas) will lead
with the key issues, and preside over the ensuing debate.
4. Review of Interoperability Issues for Web Services
Web Services are fast becoming the latest wave in the evolution of
distributed computing. Many vendors are transforming their product architectures
to provide Web Services capabilities. As with previous distributed computing
technologies, interoperability between vendor implementations is a highly
desired customer requirement. How can The Open Group, through its existing
certification and branding programs, contribute to industry efforts to
deliver on the promise of Web Services interoperability?
In this session, William Estrem (University of St Thomas) will start
off the discussion, and preside over the ensuing debate.
5. Quick Guide to Requirements Journal
Ian Dobson will give a short presentation on the Customer Council
Requirements Journal.
6. Q&A
This is your opportunity to raise issues and concerns that you would
like the Customer Council to address.
