The Network: Enabling Next-Generation Enterprise Architecture

New business priorities and ways of working are putting more pressure on IT organizations to shift from a cost center to a strategic enabler. Using a business-aligned enterprise architecture plan and by leveraging functionality and services provided by the network, enterprise architects can pave the way for IT to help transform the business. Because the network touches every element of IT infrastructure, it is uniquely positioned to provide consistent and reliable services that can be used by multiple applications throughout the enterprise. Services including real-time communications, mobility, application delivery, security, management, and virtualization can not only improve existing applications, but can enhance them for improved productivity and interaction with customers and partners.

This session will outline a step-by-step approach to identifying business goals, the capabilities required to overcome the challenges in reaching those goals, and the services that can be leveraged, along with a discussion of how to properly design and deploy the infrastructure that houses the services. Examples of enterprises that have successfully followed this approach will be used to illustrate the concepts covered in this session.
