  Stuart Macgregor, Chief Executive, and Paul van der Merwe, Consulting Manager, Real IRM, South Africa  


#Stuart Macgregor is the Chief Executive of Real IRM. Through his personal achievements, he has gained the reputation of an Enterprise Architecture and IT Governance specialist.

Macgregor participated in the development of the Microsoft Enterprise Computing Roadmap in Seattle. He was then invited by John Zachman to Scottsdale Arizona to present a paper on using the Zachman framework to implement ERP systems. In addition, Macgregor was selected as a member of both the SAP AG Global Customer Council for Knowledge Management, and of the panel that developed COBIT 3rd Edition Management Guidelines. He has also assisted a global Life Sciences manufacturer to define their IT Governance framework, a major financial institution to define their global, regional and local IT organizational designs and strategy. He was also selected as a core member of the team that developed the South African Breweries (SABMiller) plc global IT strategy (www.isaca.org/ctcase8.htm).

Stuart completed the mapping of CobiT 4.0 to TOGAF(tm) for the IT Governance Institute (www.itgi.org).

   
 

Paul van der MerweConsulting manager at Real IRM, Paul is one of South Africa's most dynamic and insightful enterprise architecture practitioners. A conceptual thinker, he has driven a number of advances in the fields in which he has specialised, among them software development, business intelligence, and now enterprise architecture. Under Paul's direction, Real IRM has taken enterprise architecture consulting and training into global markets, and as a consequence South Africa is a world leader in this domain.

Paul started out as a developer with a major South African software development house. There he developed financial software packages for early PCs. He then established an IT audit function for Unisa before joining Eskom as IT auditor. As information architect at Eskom, Paul played a key role in introducing the Zachman Framework to Eskom. One of his major responsibilities was to assist in the definition of the data architecture.

This was followed by a successful stint as an independent consultant to clients in the financial services, telecommunications and manufacturing industries, where he specialised in software development best practices, including the architected design of business solutions.

Paul joined Real IRM as an enterprise architecture consultant. A certified TOGAF practitioner, he presented the first TOGAF certification course in South Africa. He frequently presents on enterprise architecture, the Zachman Framework and governance, and has trained in these disciplines on three continents. Paul is also a respected academic who presents a post-graduate course in the Department of Informatics at the University of Pretoria. He is a member of the Association of Open Group Enterprise Architects, Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), Computer Society of South Africa and the Information System Audit and Control Association (ISACA).

   
 

Workshop

Realities of EA Governance

Enterprise Architecture without governance is academic. To embed EA into the fabric of the organisation as a business-appropriate and sustainable practice requires effective governance.

Governance is implemented to ensure that the objectives of EA are met. This is achieved through appropriate organisational structures, policies, standards, processes and controls. EA governance should also align to both corporate and IT governance.

The objective of the workshop is to provide some practical insights into EA governance facilitated through reference to industry standards and practices and sharing of case studies.

The workshop will be facilitated by Stuart Macgregor and Paul van der Merwe who are experienced architects who implemented EA governance at a number of organisations. Electronic voting software will also be utilised during the workshop to survey the view of the workshop participants in an interactive manner. The results of the survey will be made available to all participants after the workshop.

This 2-hour workshop will be focussed on the following topics:

Intended Audience:
