Unsolicited and unwanted email, spam has become a major impediment to the effectiveness of electronic mail.

In early 2003, The Messaging Forum issued a call to action to address this issue.

In July 2003, the Forum brought together a number of companies who are seeking to address Spam in different ways and brought forward the final draft of a Manager's Guide to Coping with Spam. Notes from the meeting are available, including copies of all presentation materials.

The Manager's Guide to Coping with Spam is now undergoing its final review prior to publication by The Open Group.
