The Secure Messaging Challenge

To enable organizations to exchange strongly encrypted email using a standards-based, vendor neutral architecture that does not require manual key exchange .

Background

Boeing has embarked on a project to enable its partners, customers and suppliers to exchange strongly encrypted email. We have successfully completed the first phase of that plan - setting up the internal architecture to generate and manage the tokens.

For the next phase, we will manage a limited scope pilot with selected organizations. The pilot will be a development effort to prepare our production environment for general availability in the 4th quarter of 2001.

Objectives

Boeing would like to critically review our proposed external architecture, define requirements for participation in the pilot and commit pilot participants. We hope to receive comments from interested parties regarding both the external architecture and the project structure.

We anticipate restricting the pilot to approximately 30 organizations.
