CERTIFICATION
What is Certification?
Certification is
a mechanism for recognizing products or services that conform to open
standards. Based on International Trademark Law, the use of one of The Open Group's certification logo in association with a product or service is a guarantee that the product or service conforms to the appropriate standard(s). The Open Group Certification Process provides a comprehensive set of procedures for ensuring that the product or service conforms, handling any necessary interpretations of the standard involved, and addressing disputes relating to conformance.
The Messaging Forum has introduced two certification programs to
encourage the consistent implementation of standards arising from
vendor challenge projects.
S/MIME Gateway Certification
The SMG Certification program was introduced as a result of the Secure Messaging Gateway Challenge, in order to encourage the consistent deployment of products that encrypt e-mail at the domain boundary.
The S/MIME Secure Messaging Certification program was introduced to address the shortage of individuals with the necessary skills to design and/or deploy secure messaging systems. Through a core syllabus, it defines the necessary skills to deploy systems which conform to the S/MIME Secure Messaging Architecture.
The certification program itself recognizes
Individual practitioners who have the necessary knowledge and understanding, tested through an examination
Organizations that deliver services using certified individuals
Training courses that cover all of the topics in the core syallabus
