Meeting Details
The special PROMISE session will occur on Wednesday, 29 April from 9:00AM until 12:30PM. It will continue after lunch with an open workshop that you are welcome to attend.
Synopsis
To learn how the realization of “the Internet of Things” will affect your business, don’t miss this session addressing the architecture and standards issues involved. Please make plans to attend this special session at the London Conference on 29th April 2009.
If the concepts of “Item Attendant ICT” and “the Internet of Things” are to become reality, allowing items to be networked and to be able to communicate information about themselves to other items and computer systems on a global and commercial scale, open architecture extensions and standards will be required in order to provide a secure and flexible infrastructure for their information exchange.
Contribution to standards was a prime objective of the EU PROMISE project, and its resulting architecture and interfaces provide the basis for further development which can transform traditional Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) beginning of life (BOL) information flows into the Closed Loop Lifecycle Management (CL2M™) information flows required to support information exchange within and between all lifecycle phases, including middle of life (MOL) and end of life (EOL), and extend their application from products into all kinds of services such as dynamic maintenance, healthcare and many more.
Since PROMISE’s concept of “closing the information loops” is in alignment with The Open Group’s vision of Boundaryless Information Flow™, The Open Group is proposing to form a consortium to build on the achievements of the EU DYNAMITE and PROMISE projects to further establish and promote relevant standardization activities. This will be an international vendor-neutral and technology-neutral consortium, bringing together vendors and consumers to continue the collaboration of the previous projects.
Members of the former EU DYNAMITE and PROMISE projects will be on hand throughout the day to present and discuss the objectives of the new consortium, and to demonstrate the integration of results from both projects using the PROMISE Messaging interface (PMI).
