At The Open Group's Cloud Computing Summit held in San Diego in
February 2009, both suppliers and customers of cloud computing services met
to assess the technology and business models driving adoption of Cloud computing. The meeting identified the need for further progress on
several issues including:
• Standards and portability
• Mappings to Business Architecture
• Security and privacy
• Multi-supplier and hybrid sourcing, management and governance
• Business analytics for cloud
In the intervening weeks, the Cloud Computing community has begun to
coalesce on the need for organized effort to address these and other
problems. A critical input to the decision on how to proceed will be
the voice of the customers for cloud, who will provide validation of
technical direction and ultimately, through their purchasing
decisions, decide which cloud approaches will gain market acceptance.
To provide this necessary customer voice, The Open Group's Customer
Council will be conducting a Cloud Computing Customer Requirements
session during the London conference in London. The objective
of this meeting will be to identify and priorotize issues for the
cloud community, and make recommendations for the ongoing role of the
Customer Council and The Open Group in cloud computing.
