A hole in the cloud: Is cloud secure?

N Vijaykumar
Principal Architect, Infosys, India

  • Is cloud a secure platform to host the business applications?
  • How secure is the cloud environment from security concerns like hacking, spoofing, data integrity?

These are a couple of the often asked questions by organizations, planning to embark on a cloud journey. However Cloud is not a weapon against security issues. It has the same set of security concerns that exist in the current datacenter and application setup. But yes, there are additional security measures that needs to be implemented as cloud is a shared and multi-tenanted platform, and data is being hosted in “some-one-else’s” premises and hence there will be additional controls that will have to be implemented.
