Role of Enterprise Architecture in Mergers and Acquisitions

Mergers and acquisitions have been part of business strategy ever since organized business has been carried out. However in the past, use of IT in the resulting merged entity was dealt with in a tactical than strategic manner. On account of the global recession and the new normal, there have been a number of mergers and acquisitions in the recent past. Analysts have noticed a new trend, during the M & A, which is the IT being considered as a strategic tool. Consequently, there is an increased involvement of enterprise architecture in mergers and acquisitions. This paper discusses the role of enterprise architecture in mergers and acquisitions. We have also proposed a framework that takes into account new and emerging technologies like cloud and mobility when enterprise architecting in M & A scenarios. It is a thought leadership paper that shares some related experiences (both customer and in-house experiences) and proposes a framework that can be adopted in M & A scenarios.
