Presentation
Real-Options Analysis in Optimizing the Value of Designs in Enterprise Architecture

  1. The elements of a business case in the context of architecture and systems projects, and the notion of real option in an architectural context
  2. Why Dynamic Net Present Value matters, and why static NPV analyses are inherently flawed in an enterprise context (with examples of each type of analysis)
  3. Determining the Value of Flexibility in the Enterprise Portfolio ; why flexibility has intrinsic value from an economic perspective (a portfolio of options is inherently worth more than an option on a portfolio); connections to service oriented architectures (SOA) for the enterprise; ways to measure flexibility / option-density in the enterprise portfolio; and challenges in valuation.
  4. The application of Portfolio Management practices to Enterprise Architecture Governance process
    • managing the current set of holdings (buy / sell / hold decisions on systems and technology)
    • managing the project pipeline using portfolio management 5. How to start applying these methods to the governance processes
