A Toolkit for Enterprise Architects
‘In the Middle Ages and the Renaissance … it was not uncommon for buildings to fall down soon after completion… The superstitious attributed these failures to supernatural causes, but to the more knowledgeable, the real culprits were the architects and the builders who had made fundamental (though imperfectly understood) errors in design’
Ross King from “Brunelleschi’s Dome".

Today, as in medieval times, the right architectural decisions and tools are critical if we are to build long-lasting, adaptable structures or systems.

Enterprise Architects need a toolkit to turn their EA vision into reality. This session will discuss some of the tools/artifacts that have been used in practice, along with the related area which they address:

  • Business Alignment Model, Architecture Business Domains classifications, Architectural Communities
    • Tools to insure business/IT alignment
  • Life Cycle Plans
    • Tool to guide investments for critical applications and facilitate investment planning
  • Target Architecture Model:
    • Tool to define EA
  • Architecture Fit Assessment and Architecture Principles
    • Tools to support governance
  • Position Papers
    • Tool to scan new technology and relate to business needs
