Doug Barton

Director, Network Centric Programs and Technology, Lockheed Martin Integrated Systems & Solutions

Doug BartonDoug has twenty-five years experience in business management, program management, systems engineering and acquisition of complex mission critical systems. He is currently Director, Network Centric Programs and Technology, for Lockheed Martin Integrated Systems & Solutions, and manages a program portfolio that includes key multi-service horizontal integration programs, AF advanced technology programs, Naval C4ISR programs and multi-service mission planning initiatives. He is a key strategist for architectures and technologies that enable network-centric operations and transformational battle management.

Previously Doug was Director of Technology for Lockheed Martin Mission Systems and was responsible for the company’s technology investment strategy, providing oversight of Independent Research and Development (IRAD), managing the certified and qualified system architects, providing oversight of technical vitality programs, managing the technology development labs and providing architectural oversight of programs in the company’s portfolio.

From 1992 to 1999, Doug was Chief Engineer of the Global Transportation Network (GTN) program. GTN is the C2 Information System for U.S. Transportation Command. In 1998, GTN received the NDTA National Defense Transportation Award.

Prior to GTN, Doug spearheaded efforts to transition systems and technology developed for the Department of Defense into the commercial world, developing imaging and product data management systems for commercial manufacturers.

He began his career with Lockheed Martin 1981 supporting the U.S. Navy’s Fleet Ballistic Missile program. While supporting the FBM program, he held increasing responsible positions in system engineering of large-scale information systems and design and implementation of knowledge-based systems in planning and logistics. In 1988, he received an Award for Technical Excellence for his work in Artificial Intelligence.

Doug graduated with Bachelor of Arts degrees in Computer Science and Music from the College of William and Mary in 1978 and did post-graduate work on a Drapers Company Scholarship in Voice and Vocal Pedagogy at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

Doug and his wife Laurie have two daughters, 15-year old Meg and 13-year-old Faith. They currently reside in Lovettsville, Virginia.
