Enterprise Architecture and Strategic Planning
Many corporations apply enterprise architecture (EA) as part
of their IT management and planning activities. Enterprise
architectures are used to deal with intra-organisational
processes, inter-organisational cooperation and coordination,
and their shared use of information and information technologies.
New technologies add to the need for enterprise architecture.
Frequently companies are employing the tools of EA to describe
the business' strategic position in an as-is and a to-be
context. As a direct result of this gap analysis between
the as-is and to-be architectures EA provides an insight
into what future IT strategic projects should be.
This process helps to focus on open architectural framework
and the key technologies, providing coherence to the expression
and implementation of business strategy.
From that perspective, it is seen that EA should play an
important role in strategic planning.
This presentation will position enterprise architecture
as a strategic planning tool in the implementation of corporate
business strategy.
