Presentation
E = MC2 for the 21st Century
[Enterprise
Management Control Center]
We are all aware of the importance of the equation E = MC2
in the 20th century. This presentation will explore the importance
of this equation to the 21st century.
The 21st century enterprise is clearly being driven by "information." The
degree and elegance with which we are able to harness, analyze
and control this "informational energy" is the
key to success or failure in today's competitive world.
The Open Group Architectural Framework recognizes the need
to support multiple perspectives, facilitate collaboration,
and build an environment for leveraging enterprise assets.
TOGAF facilitates the capture, sharing, analysis and management
of enterprise information between the diverse set of “interested
stakeholders”.
Tools can help or hinder the adoption of an Architectural
Framework such as TOGAF. Often the initial tool set found
in most enterprises consists of a series of programs which
produce pretty reports. These file-oriented programs are
usually based on data privately owned by various stakeholder
groups. The various stakeholders meet together and bring
their respective “pretty pictures” and attach
them to the project conference room walls. The outputs of
these tools typically include numerous diagrams, spreadsheets,
data tables, and word documents literally papering the walls. "Wall
Paper Generators"! Invariably these "Wall Paper" views
are out of date and out of synch with one another.
Methodologists and tool smiths create their respective
theories, perspectives, views and notations. Most now agree
that a “Common
Repository” is good. However, their theoretically crafted
views and notations may or may not communicate well with
the diverse business stakeholder groups.
This presentation will demonstrate the powerful meta-modeling
capabilities of Envision VIP with its multi-user object-oriented
repository and how it can support various architectural
frameworks including TOGAF. This synergistic and intuitive
environment maximizes information leveraging for all types
of enterprise information. An unlimited number of stakeholder
views can be supported for these informational assets. We
will show examples of how an organization can truly realize
the benefits of an architectural framework such as TOGAF
via an enterprise:
