Enterprise Architecture: It’s Not just Art for Art’s Sake
This is a general presentation on Enterprise Architecture (EA) and how it is so much more than just box and line diagrams, even if one is to prescribe the shapes of the boxes and lines (à la a framework). Almost 500 years ago Dante’s famous quote “art for art’s sake” warned that artists were becoming devoted to their craft rather than their social responsibility. While over 20 years of world-leading architectural research and practice by the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) has resulted in some phenomenal art (we have patented 7-dimensional representations), it seems to have been lost by practitioners that the true value of EA lies in its ability to facilitate quantitative strategic planning and analysis – i.e. NOT just pretty pictures to be hung on a wall. Dr O’Neill will present the Five Steps to Evolution that helps EA to be more than just art for art’s sake.

Presentation: Stream #10
The ABACUS Architectural Approach to Software, System and Enterprise Evolution
This presentation will demonstrate a worked-example of the revolutionary Architecture-Based Analysis of Complex Systems (ABACUS) methodology and toolset from the University of Technology, Sydney and Avolution Pty Ltd.

Areas covered in the presentation will be;

  • Architectural Discovery i.e. reconstruction and population in accordance with various frameworks
  • Analysis in accordance with various metrics or quality attributes
  • Visualisation including revolutionary 7-dimensional representations
