Biography
GartnerMichiel Malotaux is a vice president with Gartner Consulting. Mr. Malotaux has more than 35 years of IT experience in a wide range of industries and governmental agencies. His current focus is on large-scale business and IT transition programs for rationalization, consolidation and renovation. Major transition issues covered include governance, vision and strategy, enterprise architecture, asset management, engineering, sourcing, and implementation and migration.

Mr. Malotaux has a deep understanding of the business value of the IT/IS infrastructure and covers almost every domain: ERP, multichannel integration, Web services, performance, high availability and benchmarking. He supports Gartner clients with strategic advice for both short- and long-term return on investment. His architectures, assessments and quick-scans provide rapid, in-depth insight into complex business and IT issues, complemented with pragmatic and practicable advice.

Mr. Malotaux started his professional career at the IT department of the Technical University of Delft, working on development architecture and methodology, support and performance. At Boskalis, he served as systems architect, developer and manager. At Logica and CMG, he provided strategic and architecture services for finance, industry, publishing, telecommunications and government clients.

Mr. Malotaux holds a master's degree in physics from the Delft University of Technology, with IT as the primary topic of study and business management as the secondary focus.

The Purpose of Enterprise Architecture
Enterprise Architecture today is inevitable to provide the insights necessary for decision-building during large scale transitions. It encompasses the structure of Market, Business, Systems and Technology of the Enterprise. The role of the Enterprise Architect is threefold: to support the decision-making, to formalize the decisions and to control the correct implementation of those decisions.
