The Open Group Conference - San Diego 2011

The 7 Deadly Sins of Adopting TOGAF®

Rares Pateanu
Senior Director Solution Architecture and Head of Architecture CoE, Rogers Communications, Canada

This presentation will explore how a large complex telecommunications firm is applying and handling a TOGAF® implementation. The speaker will discuss why TOGAF® was chosen as the preferred framework and will talk about steps to introduce TOGAF® in the organization via TOGAF® training and certification for the architecture team and the creation of RAF, a customized version of TOGAF®.

  • Short description of the organization we are talking about.
  • What was the issue, why did Rogers get started with TOGAF® in the first place?
  • How did we get started with TOGAF®?
  • What were the goals for the actual project?
  • What was the approach that was followed?
  • What were the results?
  • What are the lessons learned?
  • What went well?
  • What can others learn from this?
  • Which were the critical success factors?

The emphasis will be on the latter half of the agenda as most people will probably know what a tailored framework looks like. The approach and lessons learned will have many useful ideas for the audience.
