Andrés Kohn looks at the security, control and performance issues involved in making clouds more secure than on-premises systems. As the enterprise datacenter evolves into a private cloud, which security features of public clouds will need to be adopted inside the enterprise?

 Outline of issues to be covered:

  • What are the potential points of compromise for data stored and processed on-premises versus in the cloud?
  • How would the typical enterprise’s on-premises data center fare if evaluated against SAS 70 standards?
  • What are the essential isolation, flexibility, security, control/transparency and distribution considerations when evaluating the suitability of different deployment methods?
  • What is the role of encryption in securing the interface between public and private clouds?
  • What are the technical characteristics of encryption systems that protect data in transit to, and at rest in, the cloud, while also enabling searches over the encrypted data?

Andres Kohn

Andrés Kohn heads Proofpoint's email archiving business unit and has been responsible for setting the company’s product direction since the inception of the company. He joined Proofpoint from Critical Path, where he was responsible for the global direction of messaging products and services. Additional areas of technical expertise include: SaaS and cloud computing, security, encryption and electronic discovery.

Previously, Mr. Kohn held various management roles at International Paper and Procter and Gamble.

Mr. Kohn holds a B.S. degree with distinction and an M.S. degree in engineering from Cornell University. He also holds an M.B.A. degree from Stanford University
