Presentation

Understanding the Cloud

The Cloud offers the potential to bring technology to new customers and to solve problems beyond the reach of traditionally architected solutions. This presentation highlights what is needed to realize this potential in addition to the basic cloud computing paradigm that involves a scale-out, distributed software design on commodity hardware. It requires standardization that promotes interoperability and portablity between clouds and enterprise applications by employing a top-down service-centric design approach to replace the traditional application-centric approach, and rethinking the model/view/controller design pattern to decouple device-specific presentation logic and artifacts. This is best accomplished by ecosystem architectures defined by the participating roles, responsibilities, and service exchanges. These foundational concepts are validated through a high-level overview of HP's implementation of a Cloud based solution for Print Publishing.

Audience:
Technologists, IT executives, business and industry leaders

Key takeaways:

  • Separating cloud hype from cloud reality
  • The most significant challenges in designing the cloud
  • The most promising opportunities of the cloud
