Prof. Dr. Roel Wieringa
is chair of Information Systems at the University of Twente,
The Netherlands. His research interests include methods for
requirements specification and architecture design of cooperative
information systems and methods for aligning information systems
to business architecture. He is member of the board of the
Netherlands Architecture Forum, an interest group of suppliers,
user companies and institute of higher education, and leads
the NAF Working Group on Professionalization of IT Architects.

Competencies of IT Architects:
Results of a survey among architecture practitioners
In 2004 and 2005 the Netherlands Architecture Forum, an interest group of vendors
and user companies, surveyd competencies of IT architects used by their members.
The results were classified into personality characteristics, cultural values,
intermediary skills and technical knowledge and skills of IT architects. The
personality characteristics of IT architects are further classified into five
groups, which yields some recognizable IT architect profiles.
