Lessons Learned
in Integrating Existing Systems into a Service Oriented Architecture
The
term Service Oriented Architecture suggests a green field
approach to constructing an architectural solution to a large
enterprise system or set of systems. The
reality is that we almost never have the opportunity to start
afresh. This session will offer a set of techniques,
based on actual project experience, for putting an SOA in
place and integrating existing systems. It will also
cover things the presenter wishes he **hadn't done** or that
he'd **known before he started** the project. The approaches
and techniques are not dependent on particular technologies
so much as they are ways to understand the problem space
and architect solutions that allow a functional SOA implementation
to be done. Topics will cover:
- things you need to know about existing systems
- service granularity - approaches to getting it right
- performance considerations
- security considerations
