Standards and Certification: Building out the IT Infrastructure

Overview: Standards take on an important role as we enter what some believe is the final stage of our IT infrastructure build out. Standards based on proprietary technologies will give way to more open architectures and more open systems as the means for communicating and using digital data takes on a character more like that of a utility. If this is the case, standards and certifications become more important than any special functions as they dictate the systems utility in terms of its ability to operate within the infrastructure.
