Cloud Computing to Support Educators: A Case Study from the San Diego County Office of Education
The San Diego Office of Education has spent considerable time and effort listening to the needs of their school districts and the challenges they are facing with respect to technology, budget cuts, and staffing. It became apparent that it was time to do something innovative and take advantage private cloud computing. SDCOE teamed with software partners to build their own private cloud computing platform through which they can offer many IT services to their districts such as secure access to files, web applications, and hosted applications. The users access the SDCOE private cloud named "Cloud Connect" through the Internet, giving the users one place to go, with a single password, to access everything they need as a student, teacher, or administrator (parent access is developing). Schools are also offered opportunities such as secure Teacher Web Pages, collaborative Team Pages, and reporting. This presentation will allow you to see what they have built and learn how t his technology could benefit your district, office of education, or institution.
