There are three models for Secure Messaging, and hybrids which combine
two or all of them:
- End-to-end encryption
- Gateway to gateway encryption
- Secure WEB based eMail
Russell Chung of the American Eagle Group started the day with an
overview of the three different models.
This was followed by a panel session involving proponents with experience
of the three models comparing and contrasting them and looking and
the pros and cons of each approach. The panelists were:
- Ben Littauer, Technology Consultant
- Ken Beer, Tumbleweed
- Dean Setstrup, The Boeing Company
- Victor DeMarines, Authentica
Finally, the meeting developed a skeleton architecture that would
allow the interworking of all three models and started to identify
the specific things that would need to be put in place to enable its
deployment.
In a separate, but related event, members of The Messaging Forum met
the CIO Forum of the Mass Health Data Consortium and agreed that the
two organizations would work together on the development of a certification
program for Secure Messaging Gateways, one of the three models considered.
Six members of MHDC committed to procure certified systems on completion
of the project.
Later in the day, a meeting was held to brief vendors of Secure Messaging
Gateway products, at which the majority committed to participate in
the development of the certification program.
