Objective of Meeting

  • To explore potential synergy between the work of The Open Group Architecture Forum and that of The Open Group Real-Time and Embedded Systems Forum in the field of Open Architectures for Real-Time.

Summary

The session comprised three presentations representing the work of The Open Group Architecture Forum:

John Spencer, Director of The Open Group Architecture Forum, gave an overview of The Open Group Architecture Framework, TOGAF. [PDF]

Terry Blevins, CIO of The Open Group, gave an overview of the Business Scenario method, which is a method that comprises part of the overall TOGAF Architecture Development Method, focused on articulating a vision for architecture work, and on eliciting and understanding the high-level requirements that the architecture is to address. Allan Kennedy of Kennedy Carter, and representing the OMG, presented the work-in-progress between The Open Group Architecture Forum and OMG on a jointly agreed positioning of TOGAF and OMG's Model Driven Architecture (MDA).

Outputs

  • The presentations communicated the scope of The Open Group Architecture Forum's work in the architecture space, and catalyzed a discussion on the relevance of the methods involved to the real-time arena.
