Who Is the Business Architect?

During this interactive session, we will discuss and exchange ideas and views on the role of the business architect. Topics include:

  • What is the delineation of the role of business architect and adjacent roles like enterprise architect, IT architect, business analyst, business consultant and solution architect? This delineation provides insight into the responsibilities, activities and focus areas of the business architect.
  • What kind of skills and experience is needed to effectively execute the role of the business architect?
  • How to become a business architect and how to shape your career?

This session will be facilitated by Harry Hendrickx, Mieke Mahakena and Erik Proper. They will share the current position of the business forum and invite your active participation to challenge, validate and supplement the business forum’s point of view.


Eric Proper Dr. H.A. (Erik) Proper is a Senior Research Manager at the Public Research Centre Henri Tudor in Luxembourg, where he leads the services-oriented enterprise engineering research program. He is also a Professor at the Radboud University Nijmegen, The Netherlands, where he heads up the Theories for Enterprise Engineering group.
Mieke MahakenaMieke Mahakena is a Capgemini certified Business Information architect who combines architecture with training and professionalization of architects. She has a leading role in defining Capgemini Academy’s architecture training program and is responsible for defining and developing the strategy of Capgemini Academy for architecture training and certification.  Mieke was TOGAFinvolved in the TOGAF certification standing committee and contributed to the people certification program for TOGAF9. Mieke just started her second term as the chair of The Open Group’s Business Forum.
