Devon Energy is one of North America’s largest independent producers of oil and natural gas. Devon has undergone profound growth from just $706 million in revenue in 1998 to $9.9 billion in 2010 following numerous mergers and acquisitions. As a consequence of these acquisitions, Devon’s systems were very complex with multiple applications performing similar functions. By 2009 this complexity had become a barrier impacting business growth and driving excessive IT costs. Tim Barnes was chartered by Devon leadership in March 2009 to develop an enterprise architecture (EA) discipline and leverage the EA process to reduce unnecessary complexity, help streamline the business and lower IT costs.  Tim Barnes PMP, is a business-savvy, results-oriented IT professional with more than 17 years of experience across various industries. Tim has served as Chief Architect at Devon Energy since March 2009. Prior to his current role, Tim led Devon’s Enterprise Integration Practice with a focus on event-driven architecture and business process automation. Prior to Devon, Tim had a successful consulting career where he led major projects and programs for both Accenture and Deloitte. Tim has also presented at six different summits, one of them a Gartner BPM summit; He has also received awards for his thought leadership.
