About Quantum Lifecycle Management
Quantum Lifecycle Management (QLM) standards are necessary to support the natural progression and extension of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM). Their scope greatly exceeds PLM, however, exploiting common information exchange technologies to embrace cross-industry lifecycles including healthcare, supply chain and logistics, food, beverage, pharmaceutical pedigree and traceability, among many others. The quantum leap implied by the name is relevant because of the need to harness and harmonize the different technologies and the direction of the “Internet of Things”, which embraces the trillions of additional entities that will be introduced to the challenge of lifecycle management.
About the QLM Work Group
Administered by The Open Group, a global industry standards and certification authority, the QLM Work Group provides the framework to develop and consolidate the open standards necessary to address the advances in Product Lifecycle Management. In addition to evolving QLM standards and best practices through The Open Group’s proven methodology, the Work Group will work to promote those standards to ensure broad market adoption across all industries.
By providing a vendor- and technology-neutral environment to build on the achievements of the former EU PROMISE Project and other similar initiatives, motivated members who share the vision of consolidating and creating open standards can come together to resolve the exponential challenges in PLM. With the focus of the former EU PROMISE Project being the creation of standards along with the development and adoption of an initial architecture and interfaces, the QLM Work Group already has a committed set of partnering organizations who wish to continue to refine and promote the existing architecture. The key objective of this Work Group is to expand on the PROMISE Project achievements by further establishing and promoting relevant standardization activities.
Benefits
- Vendors can collaborate on emerging new open standards in a vendor-neutral forum that The Open Group provides, and work with The Open Group to demonstrate their compliance with those standards.
- Customers can influence the development of suppliers' products so that those products address real customer requirements and are able to work together. By participating in The Open Group's work areas, buyers can facilitate the development of standards and certification programs, and ultimately benefit from delivering interoperability projects faster and at lower cost.
