Joining any industry consortium can be a great culture shock. The new attendees is aimed at both new members of The Open Group and first time attendees from established members. Mike Lambert, VP and Chief Technical Officer, will explain how The Open Group operates and how individuals and companies can get the greatest value out of their membership. The session will address

• The structure of The Open Group
• The role and operation of the Customer and Supplier Forums
• The role and operation of the Program Groups/Forums
• How The Open Group builds consensus
• The role of electronic mail and the WEB; facilities available to members
• The role of regional chapters

This will be followed by an informal reception, with refreshments, which will provide an opportunity to get to know other members of The Open Group staff and key representatives of the membership of The Open Group.
